Out 100 Honoree

In 2019, I had the honor of being selected as one of the Out 100 for my advice column, ¡Hola Papi!

Each month, our bravest readers share their deepest concerns and insecurities with JP Brammer, and he offers his sagest advice on everything from dating to health to confidence. As our resident guidance-counselor-turned-guardian-angel, the self-proclaimed ‘Picante Carrie Bradshaw’ continues to give us the warm nudge we need to go after our dreams and silence the drama.

Interview With the Creative Independent

I was featured in this interview on my process, social media presence, and craft for the Creative Independent.

My voice emerged most when I wasn’t thinking too hard. So whatever comes out naturally will usually yield a lot of material, but that being said, it takes years. I still think I’m figuring out what mine is. All I know is that the alchemy golden stuff is voice. You can’t just pay for it, you can’t fake it, you can’t buy someone else’s or take someone else’s.

Interview with Time Magazine

I was featured in this Time Magazine piece about what it’s like to be an advice columnist at such a difficult, unique point in history. It ran both digitally and in print.

For John Paul Brammer, who writes and publishes the ‘¡Hola Papi!’ advice column, the first such letter was about a canceled commencement: ‘At risk of sounding dramatic, it feels like an important chapter of my life isn’t going to have an ending, that I’ll feel stunted as a result and that the memory of college will wind up tainted … Intellectually, I know I need to get to a place of gratitude, and I know that takes time. But how do I move on without feeling like I’m missing experiences that have shaped so many other people?’

Interview With NPR’s Latino USA

I spoke with NPR’s Maria Hinojosa for this special ¡Hola Papi! segment about coping with isolation and productivity.

In recent weeks, many of us have had to adjust to living and working remotely. It’s a necessary precaution to keep yourself and your community safe during the coronavirus pandemic — but it’s not always easy to do. John Paul Brammer, author of the popular advice column ‘Hola Papi,’ gets it.
